In 1981, the National Association of Public Hospitals (NAPH) formally opened its doors as an organization dedicated to advocating on behalf of public hospitals, particularly tackling the issues and concerns unique to safety net providers.

The mission of NAPH is to provide national, regional and local advocacy on behalf of public and other hospitals and health systems, conduct research and analysis, and provide a host of related services needed by our members.

After careful review and consideration of the challenges facing our association and its members, NAPH has identified three major strategic priorities that will guide our activities and member services: safety net financing, quality improvement and patient safety, and strengthening our influence.

NAPH periodically surveys chief executive officers in member hospitals to evaluate how well members’ needs and expectations are being met.
