Policy and Advocacy

Congress and the Administration are actively pursuing efforts to improve health care quality in the US health care system. Efforts include: requiring the development, adoption and reporting of quality measures by providers, implementing value based purchasing initiatives to link reimbursement to performance, initiating comparative effectiveness research that will help guide decisions based on the best clinical information, developing standards for the adoption of health information technology (HIT), funding chronic care management initiatives and addressing disparities in health among racial and ethnic groups.

  • NAPH Supports Quality FIRST Act (Feb 2009)

    NAPH sent a letter to Representative Altmire (D-PA-4) in support of the Quality FIRST Act which would reward high quality hospital care and to bring greater value to the health care system by implementing Medicare performance based payments, or value-based purchasing (VBP).

  • Community Care Network of North Carolina (Feb 2009)

    Community Care of North Carolina has gained recognition as a successful, state-driven program using the medical home model to improve quality, control costs and better serve patients. NAPH member Carolinas HealthCare System is an integral part of this state model – navigating the patient care of approximately 100,000 Medicaid patients in the state.
