Hospital Characteristics Report

For nearly 25 years, NAPH has conducted an annual survey of the financial and operational “characteristics” of its members and has published findings in the annual Hospital Characteristics report. The latest report highlights the situation of America's safety net hospitals at the beginning of the current economic crisis. Using 2008 data, this study found:
  • NAPH hospitals provide 19 percent of the nation's uncompensated care but represent just 2 percent of the acute care hospitals in the country. Seventeen percent of NAPH member hospital costs are uncompensated – almost three times the national hospital average of 5.8 percent. Continue Reading
