NAPH Co-Sponsors First Annual CQ HealthBeat Conference (March 9, 2010)

On Tuesday, March 9, health care leaders gathered for a half-day event that began with opening remarks from Senator Tom Harkin (D-Iowa), Chairman of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, and an expansive panel discussion, which included NAPH member John O'Brien, UMass Memorial Health Care [see image at right].

The event, co-sponsored by NAPH and the American Podiatric Medical Association, also featured a keynote speech from Rep. Charles Boustany, Jr. (R-La.).

NAPH Member John O'Brien, UMass Memorial Health Care, served on the panel for the session: "Health Care Reform - Where Do We Go From Here?" This session examined the current state of health care reform, including the likely path of legislation.

Questions addressed included: Will the approach be one of comprehensive or incremental reform? Who are the key players in the changed landscape? What lessons came out of the debate? And who are the winners and losers in terms of states and specific stakeholder?
