Cambridge Health Alliance
Cambridge Health Alliance (CHA) is an academic public health care system created in 1996 with the merger of two Boston-area hospitals: Cambridge Hospital and Somerville Hospital (expanding in 2001 to include Whidden Hospital). CHA places a special emphasis on preventive care and serving the area's most vulnerable and diverse populations. It runs numerous health programs and community coalitions that meet the broader needs of the community and address issues such as obesity, substance abuse, and childhood asthma. CHA plays a unique role in the training of medical professionals, as it is the only health care organization in Massachusetts that is a teaching affiliate of Harvard Medical School, Harvard School of Public Health, Harvard School of Dental Medicine, and the Tufts University School of Medicine.
