Kern Medical Center
Kern Medical Center, open since 1868, is an academic teaching hospital and Kern County’s only trauma center, serving a community of approximately 650,000. As the area’s largest provider of health care services and the only hospital with physician residency programs in the county, Kern Medical Center trains more than 90 residents per year in emergency medicine, family practice, general surgery, internal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, psychiatry. The hospital is affiliated with UCLA, UCSD, and UCI Schools of Medicine, giving nearly 1,000 visiting doctors, researchers and other professionals an opportunity to assist physicians and take an active role in the teaching process.
