The State University of New York (SUNY) is a system of public institutions of higher education in New York. It is the largest comprehensive system of universities and colleges in the world, with a total enrollment of 438,361 students, plus 1.1 million continuing education students spanning 64 campuses across the state. NAPH members Stony Brook University Medical Center, SUNY Downstate Medical Center, Long Island College Hospital and SUNY Upstate Medical University are committed to excellence in patient care, research, education and community service. Stony Brook Medical is Long Island’s only university-based medical center and offers the latest advances in medicine. SUNY Downstate is Brooklyn’s only academic medical center and serves more than 2.3 million people. Long Island College Hospital – part of SUNY Downstate’s University College of Brooklyn – is a 506-bed teaching hospital with a long, exceptional history in U.S. medicine. SUNY Upstate Medical University consists of four colleges of medicine, a 350-bed hospital and trauma center, and hundreds of specialty medical clinics.
