Nashville General at Meharry
Known locally as “The General,” Nashville General at Meharry is part of the Metropolitan Hospital Authority, which also oversees the Bordeaux Long-Term Care Nursing Home and Knowles Assisted Living and Adult Day Care Services. The hospital is the primary teaching facility for Meharry Medical College and an affiliate teaching site for Vanderbilt University Medical Center. The General provides a broad range of vital services, boasting one of the top language interpreting programs in the community. To address the breast cancer health disparity in North Nashville, it developed the hugely successful "Mammograms in May" outreach program that offers free mammogram screening to women over the age of 40 who have not had a screening in a year. Among a number of innovations, the most recent is the hospital's state-of-the-art Center for Lifestyle and Health Management—a national pilot program to help those at risk for chronic disease.
