The University of South Alabama Medical Center
Established in 1830 as the first hospital in Mobile, The University of South Alabama (USA) Medical Center (as it was later named) is a major referral center for southern Alabama, southeast Mississippi and portions of northwest Florida. It has centers for Level 1 trauma, burn, stroke, cardiovascular disease, and sickle cell disease. USA Medical Center is the first facility in Mobile to earn Primary Stroke Center certification from the Joint Commission, and the state’s first recipient of the Gold Performance Achievement Award by the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association. The medical center is also a teaching and research facility for the University of South Alabama College of Medicine.
